EDM number 366 in 1995-96, proposed by Alan Simpson on 01/02/1996.

That this House finds it offensive to see press reports which describe honourable Members' staff as though they are perks rather than essential administrative support to the work of an honourable Member; believes that there is a case both for increasing the number of staff which honourable Members can appoint and improving their terms of employment; and asks that this be an essential part of any independent review of honourable Members' pay and conditions.
