Statutory Storage Period For Human Embryos
EDM number 330 in 1995-96, proposed by David Alton on 23/01/1996.
That this House notes that the Human Embryology Authority has recommended an extension of the five-year limit on which a human embryo may be stored; deplores the slip-shod and slap-dash way in which the report has been written; calls for the details of the research material used by the HFEA to be placed in the Library; urges Her Majesty's Government to consider most carefully the fate of what the Daily Telegraph has described as 3,000 orphaned embryos; and believes that the creation of surplus human embryos, and the loss of information identifying their parents, entirely discredits the HFEA as an appropriate body to recommend upon their future.
