ALEX SMITH'S RECORD IN FOOTBALL MANAGEMENT

That this House congratulates Alex Smith, Manager of Clyde FC, on his 27 years in football management, and pays tribute to his services to Scottish football, as a player, coach an d manager; salutes his achievements as Manager of Stenhousemuir FC, Stirling Albion FC (promoted to the 1st Division 19 77), St Mirren FC (Scottish Cup winners 1987), Aberdeen FC (Skol Cup winners 1989, Scottish Cup winners 1990) and Clyde FC (Second Division Champions 1993); appreciates the invaluable work he has done as manager of the Scotland Youth Team and his assistance to the National Coach in charge of the full Scotland international squad for the World Cup and the last European Championships; recognises the important contribution he has made to the careers of many young football stars; and wishes him continuing success with his Academy of Football Excellence at Broadwood Stadium, where hundreds of children and young people are given a regular opportunity to enjoy football and develop their talents, thanks to the dedication, initiative and sportsmanship of Alex Smith.
