EDUCATION AT HER MAJESTY'S PRISON HOLLOWAY

That this House notes with alarm that on the same day that the Prison Inspectorate withdrew from Holloway prison in the light of the appalling conditions therein, the prison authorities decided that the education budget would be slashed by ú80,000, a 30 per cent. cut in service; notes that the department already suffered a severe cut last year of 17.5 per cent., resulting in a reduction of some 30 classes each week; believes this latest announcement will, if implemented, result in massive cuts in curriculum, job losses, even lower morale, and probable loss of all evening classes; and calls upon the Government to reverse these disastrous cuts in light of the looming crisis at HMP Holloway.
