Preservation Of Trees In Northern Ireland
EDM number 313 in 1995-96, proposed by John D Taylor on 19/01/1996.
That this House recognises that Northern Ireland is one of the most under-treed regions of Western Europe with approximately 5 per cent. of land covered with trees, of which only a third are deciduous; calls on the Department of Environment (Northern Ireland) to give special priority to the protection of these deciduous species in its decisions on planning permission and road-widening; and, in particular, to take steps to preserve, maintain and enhance wooded areas of high landscape value such as The Walks at Moat Street, Donaghadee and the Clandeboye Estate at Rathgael Road, Bangor.
