John Wheatley College, Glasgow

That this House recognises the contribution of Glasgow's John Wheatley College to the regeneration of the city's EastEnd; notes the college's role in increasing the numbers of local people taking part in further adult education; acknowledges the college's efforts to significantly improve the progression of local people into higher education; seeks to support plans for the college's expansion to provide additional services for young people and adults in areas such as Bridgeton; regrets that the Scottish Office Education and Industry Departments' failure to link student activity with the allocation of the college's grant-in-aid has in the past precluded the extension of the college's services in these areas; and urges, in these circumstances, public sector organisations such as the Glasgow Development Agency, the East End Partnership and the City Council to collaborate with the college to provide appropriate services elsewhere in the city's East End.
