Civil Rights For Transsexuals
EDM number 302 in 1995-96, proposed by Lynne Jones on 17/01/1996.
That this House welcomes the granting of legal aid to transsexuals fighting for legal recognitiion; condemns the fact that transsexuals should have to be taking such action in order to gain their basic civil rights; urges the Government to support the Gender Indentity (Registration and Civil Status) Bill on 2nd February which, if it became law, would end the legal difficulties presently being experienced by around 10,000 transsexual people in the United Kingdom; and believes that, since gender dysphoria is a recognised medical condition, full legal rights for transsexuals are long overdue.
