Compensation For Convicted Terrorists

EDM number 301 in 1995-96, proposed by David Wilshire on 17/01/1996.

That this House deplores the fact that a convicted IRA terrorist has been awarded almost twice as much damages for a minor ankle injury as was awarded to the parents of the child killed by an IRA bomb in Warrington and over one third more than someone who received multiple serious injuries in the IRA bombing of the Baltic Exchange; notes that, whilst the ankle damage made it impossible for the convicted terrorist to wear high-heeled shoes and to dance, it did not prevent her attempting to murder five soldiers and acting as an IRA spy on military installations; and calls on Her Majesty's Goverment to end, by legislation if necessary, the general unfairnesses in the current compensation schemes and the ability of convicted terrorists to financially exploit the State that they seek to destroy.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
