Police Charges At Chesterfield Football Club

That this House notes with concern the failure of Derbyshire Police to reach agreement with Chesterfield Football Club in respect of police charges for the Chesterfield match with Colchester United on Saturday 6th May 1995; notes that Derbyshire Police insisted that a total of 67 constables and 8 sergeants were deployed for a crowd of only 3,988, including only 227 visiting supporters for which Derbyshire Police have invoiced the football club some ú13,296 against match receipts of ú14,039; regards both the number of officers and associated costs excessive in relation to the profile of the match; further notes that Chesterfield Football Club has offered Derbyshire Police the sum of ú8,000 in settlement of their costs; believe that this offer wholly reasonable; and calls upon the Chief Constable of Derbyshire to settle this matter with out delay.
