Nuclear Privatisation
EDM number 29 in 1995-96, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 15/11/1995.
That this House opposes Government proposals to privatise the nuclear industry; believes that under the current proposals future taxpayers will be left to foot the huge bill for decommissioning and dealing with radioactive waste as the profitable parts of the industry will be sold off but the liabilities left in the public sector; further believes that nuclear privatisation poses serious risks to the environment; and calls on the Government to abandon its plans to privatise nuclear power and to commit itself to phasing out the use of nuclear power stations.
