British Telecom
EDM number 27 in 1995-96, proposed by David Rendel on 15/11/1995.
That this House notes the continuing ban on British Telecom and Mercuty from providing entertainment broadcasting; regrets that the ban means that many areas of the United Kingdom are effectively disenfranchised from the new electronic multi media services; notes that businesses which are in a position to provide an adequate service are being disadvantaged because of the distortion in the market; believes that British Telecom and Mercury Communications, alongside other cable companies, can produce a truly nationwide service across the United Kingdom; and urges the Government to lift the ban on British Telecom and Mercury from providing services.
