EDM number 241 in 1995-96, proposed by Don Foster on 09/01/1996.
That this House congratulates the ruling Labour Group on Blackburn Borough Council for backing a Liberal Democrat motion instructing the Chief Executive to write to the local Labour honourable Members urging them to oppose at every stage during the passage of the Finance Bill the loss of revenue caused by tax reduction and to support its reinvestment in education and other local services; notes that the honourable Members for Blackburn and Rossendale and Darwen abstained in the votes on the Budget; and calls upon them to follow the lead given by Blackburn Borough Council and to oppose tax reductions at the expense of children's education during the Finance Bill.
