Offerton House Hospital Site

EDM number 233 in 1995-96, proposed by Simon Hughes on 19/12/1995.

That this House notes with concern that Government restrictions on National Health Service capital spending are in some cases resulting in regional health authorities promoting redevelopment schemes with little regard to their environmental impact or to local community needs; is aware of public concern that the proposed redevelopment of the Offerton House hospital site in Stockport borough will deprive residents of playing fields and recreational space, and worsen traffic conditions on the A626, as well as requiring the unnecessary replacement of some existing health facilites; urges the regional health authorities to reconsider plans for disposal and to give consideration to alternative options which would retain the site for community care; and calls on the Secretary of State for Health to issue national guidelines requiring regional health authorities disposing of land to consider wider community needs as well as the likely financial return.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
