Media Censorship In Turkey
EDM number 231 in 1995-96, proposed by Llew Smith on 19/12/1995.
That this House welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire in Turkey by the PKK; regrets that this offer has received no coverage in the Turkish Press or in the Turkish media generally; is aware that journalists in Turkey who have criticised the Turkish Government have been imprisoned and tortured whilst others have disappeared or have been murdered; and calls upon the international Press fully to report the ceasefire and the current events in Turkey and to do all they can to attempt to transmit the news of the PKK cease-fire to the Turkish people.
