Conduct Of The Royal Ulster Constabulary In The Case Of Mr Billy Gorman

EDM number 230 in 1995-96, proposed by Robert Parry on 19/12/1995.

That this House notes Mr Billy Gorman's claim that he is innocent of the charge of murder for which he served 14 years in prison; is concerned that he had to resort to judicial review on two occasions in order to obtain the interview notes of his interrogation at Castlereagh Detention Centre so that they could be submitted for ESDA testing; expresses grave concern that, although the interview notes were submitted for testing in December 1993, Mr Gorman and his legal representatives are still being denied access to the test results; deplores the intransigence of the Royal Ulster Constabulary on this matter, despite representations from Mr Gorman, his solicitor, the honourable Member for Falkirk West, and human rights organisations; calls on the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to instruct the Chief Constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary to expedite the issue of the test results in compliance with the Court decision; and supports Mr Gorman in his efforts to clear his name.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
