Human Rights In Kashmir
EDM number 216 in 1995-96, proposed by Lynne Jones on 14/12/1995.
That this House expresses concern at the continuing human rights abuses being committed in Kashmir; is particularly concerned at reports of an attack by the Indian Army on the home of Syed Ali Geelani, a well known Kashmiri leader on 10th December which would appear to have followed a rocket attack on his office on 30th October; notes that, despite the continuing conflict and human rights abuses in Kashmir, the Home Secretary has decided to include India on his so called White List of safe countries of origin; calls on the Government to put diplomatic pressure on the Indian Government to ensure that their armed forces behave with restraint and with respect for human rights; and requests the Government to take a more pro-active approach in brokering talks between India, Pakistan and representatives of the Kashmiri people.
This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
