Irish Support For Decommissioning Of Arms

EDM number 203 in 1995-96, proposed by David Trimble on 12/12/1995.

That this House welcomes the opinion poll published in the Sunday Tribune on 10th December 1995 which indicates that 45 per cent. of people in the Republic of Ireland think that the Irish Republican Army should decommission all of its arms before talks and that a further 31 per cent. think that the Irish Republican Army should decommission some of its arms before talks; notes that in total 76 per cent. of the people of the Irish Republic do not support either Sinn Fein/Irish Republican Army of the Dublin political establishment which have both taken issue with Her Majesty's Goverment insistence on the beginning of a process of decommissioning before talks; and further notes with regret that support for the Sinn Fein/Irish Republican Army position is highest among supporters of the Irish Labour Party led by Mr Dick Spring.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
