Closed Circuit Security Cameras
EDM number 131 in 1995-96, proposed by Diana Maddock on 28/11/1995.
That this House believes that closed circuit security cameras play an important part in crime prevention and detection; further believes that it is essential to public confidence in and support for these cameras that the videotapes from them are not abused for commercial purposes; welcomes the decision of the producer of the video, Caught in the Act!, a compilation of sexual and violent scenes from these tapes, to withdraw it from sale; notes the expressed intention of the Government that videotapes from cameras paid for with new Home Office money should be subject to a code of conduct; supports this move but believes that stronger restraints should be applied to all closed circuit security camera schemes including those already in operation; and therefore calls upon the Government to take action to ensure that closed circuit security camera videotapes are used only for their designated purpose and never for commercial purposes.
This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs.
