Age Discrimination In The Nhs
EDM number 1243 in 1995-96, proposed by Alice Mahon on 14/10/1996.
That this House is shocked to note the decision by Hillingdon Hospital Trust to restrict treatment by age; is deeply concerned that treatment in this hospital is not to be made available according to medical criteria and believes that this decision breaches the principle that the NHS is available on the basis of medical need and not the ability to pay; therefore calls on the Secretary of State for Health urgently to investigate this inhumane decision which fundamentally undermines the founding principles of the NHS and to restore the availability of treatment in this hospital only on medically determined advice; and re-states that age discrimination is totally unacceptable.
