Threat To Jobs At R. R. Donnelley UK In York

EDM number 1232 in 1995-96, proposed by Hugh Bayley on 14/10/1996.

That this House expresses grave concern at the announcement on Tuesday 1st October 1996 by R. R. Donnelley UK of its intention to close its commercial printing facility in York which threatens 314 skilled printers' jobs; notes that the closure of ABB's York carriageworks together with other railway redundancies caused by privatisation and job losses in the food industry have already given York one of the highest increases in unemployment of any parliamentary constituency since the 1992 general election; and calls upon the President of the Board of Trade to instruct officials in the Government's Yorkshire and Humber office to meet R. R. Donnelly UK to create conditions which allow the threatened jobs to be saved.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
