Wear United

EDM number 1211 in 1995-96, proposed by Jim Cousins on 23/07/1996.

That this House welcomes the fact that both Newcastle United and Sunderland will be playing in the Premier League in the 1996-97 football season; expresses surprise and disappointment at the ban imposed on away supporters at local derby games; supports the objective of the 'Wear United' combined supporters in seeking to maintain the right of attendance of away supporters; notes that the Newcastle-Sunderland derby games for 1996-97 will be played on a Wednesday and Sunday; notes that no similar ban has been imposed on away supporters at derby games in London Manchester, Merseyside or Glasgow; and therefore seeks the reversal of the decision which restricts the rights of football supporters in the North East of England.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
