Industrial Fishing

EDM number 1207 in 1995-96, proposed by Bill Walker on 23/07/1996.

That this House considers that the European Commission has ignored its legal obligations under the EU Treaty to take specific conservation measures for the protection of sandeels from industrial fishing; and, noting that under the Treaty, Article 13(2) of Regulation 3094/86 allows the United Kingdom Government to take action to conserve those species seriously threatened where any delay would result in damage which would be difficult to repair, calls upon Her Majesty's Government to take immediate measures to protect its sandeel stocks.
