Closure Of George Bryan Mental Health Unit

EDM number 1201 in 1995-96, proposed by Brian Jenkins on 22/07/1996.

That this House notes with concern the proposal of the South Staffordshire Area Health Authority to close the George Bryan Residential Mental Health Unit in South East Staffordshire to make savings to meet an accounting error of ú1.5 million; and notes further that this unit is purpose-built to house 30 people and has been open less than 12 months and that the alternative places offered are 16 miles away in a unit which is double in size and will provide a worse service and that the burden for this mis-management will be borne by some of the most vulnerable patients in the NHS.
