Baroness Castle And Labour Party Policy
EDM number 1195 in 1995-96, proposed by David Nicholson on 17/07/1996.
That this House commends Baroness Castle of Blackburn for her perspicacity in observing that the proposed Labour party conference vote on manifesto policy 'will be a loyalty test - like an election in a one party state' and that the Party's national executive committee is 'rather more supine than it was in my day'; notes her call for a Labour Government to restore the earnings link with pensions and immediately to increase the basic pension; further notes that both these proposals appear to be at variance with current Labour policy; and invites the honourable Member for Islington South to clarify the position.
This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
