Cattle Cull
EDM number 1180 in 1995-96, proposed by Christopher Gill on 16/07/1996.
That this House believes the accelerated cattle cull to be an inappropriate use of public funds given that there is no guarantee when the beef export ban will be lifted, no certainty that export opportunities will still exist by the time that it is and no prospect of the scheme resulting in the date at which BSE is finally eradicated being brought forward; and further believes that taxpayers' money would be better spent compensating beef farmers for actual losses and on measures to boost the recovery of domestic consumption.
