Transfer Of Prisoners

EDM number 1141 in 1995-96, proposed by David Alton on 10/07/1996.

That this House mindful that the Government of the Republic of Ireland has now ratified and brought into force the European Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons and recognising that the placing of prisoners far from their homes and the imposition of closed visits, causes acute stress to the families of prisoners as well as the prisoners themselves, urges Her Majesty's Government to expedite the transfer of all those prisoners who have requested, and are eligible for, transfer and to re-examine the arrangements for closed visits.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
