Members Pay And Office Cost Allowances

EDM number 1113 in 1995-96, proposed by Lynne Jones on 08/07/1996.

That this House shares the view of the Review Body on Senior Salaries that there should be transparency and accountability in the system of pay and allowances; believes that the sal aries of honourable Members' staff should be removed from the office costs allowance and administered centrally; accepts that at a time of pay restraint in the public sector it is inappropriate for honourable Members to receive a pay award in excess of 3 per cent; and believes the pay increase recommended by the Review Body should be transferred to the office costs allowance to enable honourable Members to improve their service to constituents.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
