Gwent Health Authority Appointments

That this House deplores the bungled investigation by the Gwent Health Authority into its appointment in January 1996 of Julie Sharma to a senior management post only days after she received a ú35,000 redundancy pay-off from the Gwent Comm unity Healthcare Trust; calls on the authority to expedite the disciplinary proceedings that have been recommended against Jeremy Hallett, its Chief Executive; notes that this chief executive has now been appointed to a new post as Chief Executive of the Wiltshire Health Authority; and calls on the District Auditor to examine closely the evidence contained in the authority's report of collusion between Hallett and Sharma in the closing months of 1995 to ensure both her receipt of her redundancy pay-off and her access within days to another senior management post in the Gwent NHS, restricted for internal candidates.
