ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING AND NURSES' PAY
EDM number 1032 in 1995-96, proposed by Janet Anderson on 20/06/1996.
That this House commends the Royal College of Nursing on their report, Broken Promises which details the pay offers currently made by NHS trusts to nurses; further notes that, of the 488 trusts across the United Kingdom, only 111 have made any offer, despite the fact that it is now more than four months since the Pay Review Body's recommendations were accepted; deplores the fact that the vast majority of nurses are still waiting for the fair pay award which the Government's local pay policy was supposed to deliver; considers it a disgrace that 377 trusts have so far failed to agree a pay award; believes that the nursing profession play a pivotal role in the NHS and are worth better treatment; congratulates the Royal College of Nursing for highlighting this scandal; and calls upon the Government to take action to ensure that the Health Service trusts move swiftly to honour the agreement reached with the Pay Review Body.
