Irish Community And Access To Tara Television
EDM number 1019 in 1995-96, proposed by Kevin McNamara on 18/06/1996.
That this House notes that an estimated six million people in the United Kingdom are of Irish origin or descent, and that they make to British life a valuable cultural as well as an economic contribution; appreciates the strong links such a community maintains with Ireland; welcomes the efforts of TARA Television to bring to this country through the cable and satellite network a new channel drawing upon the best of the output of Ireland's state broadcaster, RTE, alongside other original programming; believes that such a venture would both be welcomed by the Irish community in this country, and would greatly extend the diversity of programming on the cable and satellite network without drawing upon further American imports; and extends to TARA Television its very best wishes for every possible success with this initiative.
