Cornish Development Agency

EDM number 1011 in 1995-96, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 18/06/1996.

That this House notes the recent debate concerning the need for a Cornish Development Agency and the wide ranging support for such an agency from many organisations, numerous individuals including Sir John Banham and many in the Cornish business community; notes the limited support given to the Cornish economy through the plethora of economic agencies presently concerned with Cornwall but which are all committed to larger synthetic "westcountry" or "south-west" regions and are invariably based outside Cornwall; believes that is is appropriate and economically advantageous to treat Cornwall as a region in its own right; and supports the creation of a single Cornish Development Agency with control over the funds currently dissipated over many non-Cornish based organisations.
