Construction Industry
EDM number 1001 in 1995-96, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 17/06/1996.
That this House notes with concern the continuing depression afflicting the construction industry and expresses dismay at the redundancies in the brick manufacturing sector at Caernarfon and elsewhere which were announced in the week of 10th June; asserts that there continues to be a real need for construction projects in every part of these islands, including housing, particularly specialised housing for the first time house-seeker and bungalows for elderly and disabled people, school and hospital building and for leisure facilities; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take urgent steps to trigger recovery in the construction industry, thereby reducing unemployment and providing much needed social facilities.
