EDM number 994 in 1994-95, proposed by Janet Anderson on 19/04/1995.
That this House notes the dramatic increase in private nursing homes over the last decade; is gravely concerned at the pressure this growth places on the workloads of registration and inspection officers; notes the report of the United Kingdom Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, which draws attention to the unacceptable levels of bad practice in private nursing homes and unrealistic workloads levels for registration and inspection officers; notes the report of a survey by the Royal College of Nursing showing excessive variations in the workloads of registration and inspection is improved, vulnerable residents could be at risk of neglect and abuse; and urges the Government to ensure that there are sufficient numbers of registration and inspection officers, with the necessary training and support, to maintain good standards of care for residents in private nursing homes.
