Conduct Of The Leader Of The House And Services In Sheffield
EDM number 973 in 1994-95, proposed by Clive Betts on 05/04/1995.
That this House notes the answer given by the Leader of the House to the honourable Member for Sheffield, Heeley on 4th April, and confirms that the Sheffield City Council's council tax collection is in line with the average figure for metropolitan districts; confirms that the number of empty properties reported includes properties awaiting demolition under the Government's own estate action programme and also reflects the council's progressive policy of allowing housing applicants three choices of property; confirms that ú5 million in 1993-94 balances held by schools in the city are in line with the Audit Commission's guidelines, that these balances have fallen to around ú2 million at the end of 1994-95, and that they are not evenly spread throughout schools and that resources cannot because of the Government's agreed formula funding arrangement, be targeted to favour the schools without balances; and therefore believes that the Leader of the House misused the information he had to distract attention from the scale of the cuts in services facing the people of Sheffield caused by his Government's cuts in grant and its arbitrary and unfair capping rules.
