Tibet

That this House notes the continuing illegal occupation of Tibet by military and police forces of the People's Republic of China and the denial of basic human rights of the Tibetan people, thus threatening their distinct cultural, religious and national identity; calls on Her Majesty's Government to recognise the urgency of the present state of affairs in which the accelerated influx of Chinese settlers and workers will result in Tibetans becoming a minority within their own country; and further calls on Her Majesty's Government to use its influence, on the Chinese Government, and in the United Nations and European Union to start the process of negotiation towards self-determination accepted as their right under international law and recognised in the United Nations General Assembly, Resolution No. 1723 (XVI) and Resolution No. 279 (XX).
