Fresh Meat (Hygiene And Inspection) Regulations 1995 (No. 2)
EDM number 916 in 1994-95, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 28/03/1995.
That this House notes the daily increasing number of members of the Federation of Fresh Meat Wholesalers who are confirming their opposition to the introduction of the Meat Hygiene Service as stipulated by the Fresh Meat (Hygiene and Inspection) Regulations 1995, presently laid before the House; notes further the threat of mass refusal to pay the estimated fees of the MHS; sees this as an indication by the members of the FFMW of a loss of confidence in their leadership, and therefore an invalidation of the `final industry forum' convened by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food on Monday 27th March; and urges the Minister therefore to take due note of this crisis in the fresh meat industry and to withdraw the Fresh Meat (Hygiene and Inspection) Regulations 1995 pending a thorough review and reassessment of the issues at stake.
