Conduct Of The New Forest Buckhounds
EDM number 913 in 1994-95, proposed by John Denham on 28/03/1995.
That this House notes that the Forestry Commission suspended the New Forest Buckhounds for one day following the signing of Early Day Motion No. 792, Deer Hunting in the New Forest by over 80 honourable and Right honourable Members; notes however that the keeper's report on the carcass of the deer which was attacked by hounds before its death on 10th March unbelievably failed to identify any bite marks or other injuries caused by dogs; notes also that the subsequent Forestry Commission inquiry failed to interview any of the eye-witnesses to the attack; notes further that the Forestry Commission is responsible for identifying animals to be killed by the Buckhounds; believes that the Forestry Commission has shown itself incapable of enforcing the licence conditions for the Buckhounds; believes that the one day suspension is quite inadequate; and calls on the Government to institute new and independent monitoring of the hunt until Parliament is allowed to express the support of the majority of honourable and Right honourable Members for a ban on hunting with dogs.
This motion has been signed by a total of 37 MPs.
