TOXIC DUMPS OFF BRITAIN'S COASTLINE
EDM number 910 in 1994-95, proposed by Alan Simpson on 28/03/1995.
That this House is alarmed at the reported threat to marine life in the Irish Sea arising from the Government's dumping of 25,000 tonnes of chemical weapons including nerve gas, arsenic bombs and toxic seed dressings at the end of the last war; notes that this is only part of the 145,000 tonnes of chemical waste dumped off the coast of Britain and Ireland during the last 50 years, which have never been monitored and which constitutes an environmental time bomb around Britain's shores; and demands an urgent and independent inquiry into the scale of environmental damage that this might threaten.
