Nuclear Test Victims And An Official Inquiry
EDM number 868 in 1994-95, proposed by Alan Simpson on 22/03/1995.
That this House welcomes the publication by the Glasgow-based Herald Newspaper on 20th March of details of an official cover-up of the known risks to 22,000 servicemen exposed to radiation during the British atomic bomb tests in Australia between 1952 and 1958; notes that a Government memorandum written in 1951 warned that `casualties may not become apparent at once'; supports the concerns of the British Nuclear Test Veterans Association that successive governments have kept secret details of the damage done to servicemen in nuclear test experiments; and calls for a public inquiry to be established at once to investigate the full facts.
