That this House is aware that currently over 15,000 women die of breast cancer in Britain each year and the disease is the leading cause of death in women in the 35 to 49 years age group; further notes that the United Kingdom's mortality rate for breast cancer is the highest in the world; believes that one reason for this high mortality rate may be the enormous variations in standards of treatment around the country which include many general practitioners finding it difficult to achieve minimum standards of care for women with breast cancer; accordingly congratulates the Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund for its compiling and distribution of the first ever Directory of Breast Cancer Services in the United Kingdom which has now been sent to every general practitioner in the United Kingdom to help doctors refer women with symptoms of breast cancer to appropriate treatment within their local area; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to give maximum publicity to this important initiative so that women know such information is available from their general practitioner.
