Rights Of Minorities In Pakistan
EDM number 855 in 1994-95, proposed by Robert Parry on 21/03/1995.
That this House welcomes the recent High Court decision to release the Pakistani Christians, Manzoor Masih and 14-year old Salamat Masih, who had been under sentence of death on blasphemy charges; notes however, that the undemocratic law under which they were charged remains on the statute books, posing a grave threat to human rights and to the liberty, dignity and safety of the country's Christian community and all religions and other minorities; and therefore calls on the government of Pakistan to take all necessary measures to safeguard the life and liberty of Manzoor Masih and Salamat Masih, to repeal the present blasphemy law and take all necessary steps to safeguard and ensure religious liberty and civil rights.
