That this House congratulates Lindis Percy, veteran peace campaigner, in her efforts to get official recognition that Menwith Hill, North Yorkshire, though officially owned by the Ministry of Defence, is effectively controlled by a foreign power to whom the United Kingdom has surrendered all jurisdiction; notes that Menwith Hill is now the largest US spy centre in Europe with over 1,000 US personnel inside its perimeter; and further notes that, by serving a public interest immunity certificate to prevent any disclosure of information about the working of the base, the Secretary of State for Defence is seeking merely to gag the press and deceive the public about Menwith Hill's massive illegal telephone tapping of British European citizens.
