Un World Summit For Social Development

That this House supports the recent call during the UN World Summit for Social Development for each country to develop a definition of poverty and proposes the following definition of people living in poverty:`persons whose resources (material, cultural and social) are so limited as to exclude them from the minimum acceptable way of life in the countries in which they live'; and further supports the call for the development, updating and dissemination of indicators of poverty and vulnerability, including income, wealth, nutrition, physical and mental health, education, literacy, unemployment, social exclusion and isolation, homelessness, landlessness and other factors and that this information should be divided into two distinct groupings as it relates to (a) the population as whole and (b) women and, where appropriate, girls.
