Impact Of The National Lottery On Sports Club Finances
EDM number 762 in 1994-95, proposed by John Hutton on 08/03/1995.
That this House notes the significant financial support provided to many sports clubs by local lotteries; expresses concern over the impact the National Lottery is already having on the weekly takings of club lottery schemes, such as the Barrow Rugby League Build a Win Lottery which is currently losing nearly ú500 a week; and therefore urges the Department of National Heritage to conduct an urgent review of the arrangements for an instant cash and mid-week lottery by the organisers of the National Lottery in order to safeguard the existence of many valuable local sports organisations.
