Conduct Of The Honourable Member For South Ribble And Lord Blaker And World In;action Programme Of March 1992

EDM number 747 in 1994-95, proposed by Tom Pendry on 07/03/1995.

That this House notes that, in their Early Day Motion 841, of 10th March 1992, the then Right honourable Member for Blackpool South, now the Noble Lord, Lord Blaker, and the honourable Member for South Ribble stated that the World in Action Programme of 2nd March 1992, which made allegations against them, was wholly misleading in that, inter alia, the investigation into the affairs of Mr Owen Oyston was, at all times, that of Mr Michael Murrin; regrets that the Noble Lord and the honourable Member for South Ribble thereby did not explain to the House their own involvement in the covert investigation in that tape recordings of conversations between Mr Murrin, the Noble Lord and the honourable Member for South Ribble revealed (a) that they secretly financed and directed the said investigation and that their purpose was to damage the reputation and livelihood of Mr Oyston for politically motivated reasons and (b) that they were also privy to obtaining, by clandestine means, private papers and bank account details of Mr Oyston; therefore calls upon the Noble Lord and the honourable Member for South Ribble to apologise to this House for failing to reveal, in the said Early Day Motion, the extent of their financial and personal involvement in the squalid investigation referred to; further notes that the Noble Lord and the honourable Member for South Ribble have failed to respond to Early Day Motion No. 863 of Session 1991-92, in the name of the honourable Member for Stalybridge and Hyde, which refers to their personal involvement in secret payments to fund a dirty tricks campaign against leading Labour Party members and supporters; and calls upon them to so respond.

This motion has been signed by a total of 46 MPs.
