Politics And The Northern Ireland Civil Service
EDM number 722 in 1994-95, proposed by John D Taylor on 02/03/1995.
That this House reiterates the apolitical tradition of the British Civil Service; commends the impartiality of the Northern Ireland Civil Service during the difficult years of terrorism and political unrest; is concerned at increasing evidence of the politicisation of the Northern Ireland Civil Service as is most recently evident in the letter of the 22nd February by the Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Mr David Fell, in which he commends all Ireland bodies with executive powers over affairs within Northern Ireland; and calls upon the Northern Ireland Civil Service to immediately restore its impartiality by resisting the temptation to comment upon controversial political policies within Northern Ireland.
