Persecution Of Christians In Turkey

That this House is alarmed by recent reports which confirm the continuing persecution of Armenian and Greek Christians in Turkey; is aware that since the middle of last year, local Armenian churches have been told by the Turkish authorities that apart from regularly scheduled worship services, any function or meeting held in church facilities with more that 10 people in attendance must firstly have written permission; that both the Armenian and Greek Orthodox patriarchs in Turkey were recently interrogated by officials in the Instanbul Governors office and that the Government of Turkey knowingly halted the participation of the Armenian Orthodox Church from this year's election of its Supreme Patriarch by cancelling its representative assembly, thus making its members ineligible to vote; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to make representations yet again to the Turkish Government to cease its persecution of Christians.
