Tools For Self-Reliance

EDM number 69 in 1994-95, proposed by Robin Corbett on 21/11/1994.

That this House congratulates Tools for Self Reliance and its volunteers on providing half a million hand tools to artisan groups in Africa and Central America; recognises that tools create jobs for the poorest people in the developing world; believes that hand tools offer a simple, cost-effective path to sustainable development; and calls upon concerned Government departments and British aid agencies to examine what resources they allocate to making hand tools much more widely available in the South, particularly via support for local tool production and to increase resources for this purpose.
