Professional Boxing

EDM number 679 in 1994-95, proposed by Sam Galbraith on 27/02/1995.

That this House, recognising that boxing of necessity causes chronic, cumulative primary brain damage with the additional risk of severe secondary brain damage due to intracranial haematoma resulting in death and, while recognising that good medical supervision and care can reduce the extent of the brain damage, accepts that as the purpose of boxing is to inflict brain damage it can only be prevented by stopping boxing; and therefore calls on the Government to introduce legislation to bring about the end of professional boxing.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
