EDM number 674 in 1994-95, proposed by Alex Salmond on 24/02/1995.
That this House applauds the early indications of success of SNP controlled Tayside Regional Council's `Warm Up for Winter Campaign' in generating benefit claims which could be worth up to ú500,000 in extra benefits for Perth and Kinross pensioners alone; welcomes the drive by home helps to assist the elderly to claim benefits with over 6,000 requests having been received from Tayside pensioners; notes that the first 700 forms returned by home helps in Perth and Kinross have produced 300 benefits claims; further notes that if this pattern is repeated throughout Tayside pensioners stand to benefit by substantial sums; expresses its dismay that having failed to obstruct the scheme the Labour party continues to denigrate it; and trusts the pensioners of Tayside to judge whether the scheme is worthwhile and recalls that under Labour control Tayside Regional Council's anti-fuel poverty scheme spent a grand total of ú7,500 per annum.
